I enjoy browsing through old magazines and newspapers to find inspiration for my work. My favorite time period is the 1950s to 1980s in the United States, and I particularly love the magazine ‘LIFE.’ The historical photos in the magazine, edited in a way that encourages viewers to contemplate various subjects, provide me with a lot of creative inspiration.
During my exploration, I came across a photograph of John F. Kennedy Jr. saluting. This photo was taken at his father JFK’s funeral, who had been assassinated. This sparked my curiosity to learn more about the event.
JFK’s assassination in Dallas, Texas, on November 22, 1963, had a profound impact on American society and garnered worldwide condolences. However, even as of 2021, the circumstances surrounding his death remain unresolved. On October 26, 2017, a release of classified documents related to the assassination was scheduled, but the Trump administration only disclosed a portion, citing national security concerns.
As a result of this decision, the release of tens of thousands of documents pertaining to JFK’s death is unlikely. Every year on November 22, JFK is commemorated with events held in the United States and globally. This one photograph prompted me to delve into the question of why JFK’s memory is so deeply cherished and remembered.
Through books, films, and documentaries about his life, I discovered that his ideas from half a century ago are still relevant today in the 21st century. His progressive concepts, advocating for the New Frontier spirit, liberal democracy, and inclusive policies, including those benefiting people of color, peace, and reconciliation, resonate with me. The alignment of his ideas with my own beliefs creates a sense of ideological unity that transcends time, evoking a profound sense of longing and emotion.
