Since ancient times, knowledge has been passed down through a channel of knowledge transmission known as ‘records’. Moreover, the tools and materials for recording have been easily accessible and user-friendly. Throughout history, various materials such as stones, leaves, leather, tree bark, pottery, paper, and electronic devices have been employed for this purpose. Records have continually evolved in form and type.

Considering the means to deliver knowledge to our descendants in the modern era, I conceived the concept of a door, which will soon transition to digital and electronic devices. Thus, the narratives associated with the 12 zodiac signs and their interconnected stories are visually depicted in a mechanical manner. I generated diverse ideas to convey these concepts through my artwork, putting forth concerted efforts in their expression.

To elucidate the artwork:

Firstly, the ‘succession of knowledge’ is symbolized by the various 12 zodiac spirits encapsulated within the frame. It signifies the potential for knowledge to be perpetuated within its confines.

Secondly, a network of pipes connects the 12 zodiacs within the frame, emphasizing that the story of the zodiac extends beyond mere narrative storytelling. These pipes convey assorted information, dates, times, and more, reflecting the interactive nature of ‘various knowledge’, embodied through connections within the artwork.

Thirdly, an antique clock within the frame represents the enduring legacy of the 12 zodiac signs. While its usage has waned compared to the past, remnants of its significance persist. This clock is intricately linked to antiquated machinery.

Furthermore, the records of ancient knowledge, which have been handed down over time, possess a degree of semi-permanence based on their storage condition. This contrasts with the inherent limitations and finite nature of machines, which lack the ability to endure and be passed down semi-permanently, as was once possible.

Overall, coloration is employed to convey the artwork’s essence, utilizing brightness as a medium to represent these concepts.
