This is a story about memory.

Memories come in various forms. There are those haunting nightmares, leaving scars that seem to never heal. Memories of fear can suddenly flood in like turning on a faucet at the most unexpected moments. Then, there are memories of fond nostalgia, akin to a cartoon watched on Sunday mornings during childhood.

Do the precious memories, like treasures, sustain me? And what about the memories of scars, deeply ingrained like growing horns, do they also play a role in supporting me? These are questions I find myself pondering often. As a child, I lost my way on a country road, becoming a lost child, and spent several anxious days with strangers in an unfamiliar place. Now, through my work, I aim to transform these unfamiliar and fearful memories into a surreal adventure, using them as clues.

I find joy in the process of embracing and embracing even the unattractive remnants of scars. Ironically, the memories I once wanted to erase are becoming the strength that sustains me. Looking back, I want to express that the memories which once hurt me are not necessarily sources of unhappiness; instead, they could be fleeting daydreams or serve as inspiration for creating something new.

The central theme of my work revolves around an imaginary adventure play, where a seemingly powerless girl (the artist herself) conquers the challenges of Wonderland (representing past losses and wounds) by assuming the role of a wizard (depicted in the picture). Eventually, “I” become the power to transform nightmares into sweet dreams…
