Gangyeon-Lee-profile

I am Lee Gang-yeon, a practitioner working with metal materials. My focus lies strongly on elements such as conventional ideas and stereotypes that saturate our daily existence. I center my creative efforts on harnessing these common notions, aiming to unlock the potential for broader interpretations in my artworks.

In our interaction with the objects that populate our everyday world, we often employ a customary manner of thought. We tend to gauge and define objects based on preconceived notions. The purpose and utility of a specific object are often derived from limited experiences of its form and significance. These experiences give rise to stereotypes, which in turn shape and extend our perspective.

My artistic pursuit seeks to venture into the realm of expansion through multifaceted interpretation, rather than being bound by a mere structural understanding of objects. To achieve this, I deliberately blur the lines of conventional thought by reconstructing familiar images during the artistic production process. The outcome is intended to provide viewers with an unfamiliar encounter, fostering a fresh experience that challenges our customary thinking patterns.
